Hi friends and family!

Thank you so much for all the prayers and support thus far!

We arrived in Lusaka on Monday after three long flights and a bumpy bus ride. This week some of our highlights include exchanging our money for Kwacha, visiting some of the malls here, meeting David from the Zambia General Nursing Council, and meeting reverend Kalembo, a bishop of the Pilgrim Wesleyan Church, and touring two hospitals outside of the city. We visited one of the markets in Lusaka and bargained with the locals- so fun kind of overwhelming!

Please pray for us as we leave bright and early tomorrow for Macha on our bus- we love our bus driver, Lovemore. Once we are in Macha we will be starting clinicals- including work in the hospitals, clinics, and outreach. We are all very excited to be staying in Macha for 5 weeks studying, conversing, and learning their culture. On Sunday we are going to their church service which is just a 25 minute walk from the guest house we will be living in.

One of my favorite take aways from Lusaka was a conversation I had with a mom from the private children’s hospital we visited. Her son has cerebral palsy and she traveled all the way to this hospital from Zimbabwe. Even though her son was in the operating room (or the theater as they call it here!) she was so invested in our conversation and truly wanted to get to know me. She even asked for a picture!! The people here are so intentional and real, and I am excited for more conversations like these.

Here are some of highlight pictures for your enjoyment!

Miss you all,

Ashley
